"Switch on the sun" sounds like a slogan in an advertising spot, but it could become a vital priority these days, as we encounter evidence of induced global warming. Our life always depended on the sun, but now we try also to convert its power into electricity, to supply the needs of our technological civilization in a clean manner. Designing photovoltaic applications have primarily to take into account the specific "fuel": the amount of collectable solar energy on oriented surfaces. The Solar Radiation Monitoring Station at the West University of Timisoara is one of our contributions in this global race for renewable energy.
